From its origins, the house has explored one central idea — IDENTITY. Just as identity is shaped by our values, decisions and experiences, the identity of the brand is defined not only by what we create, but by how we choose to create it.
Our values are therefore a true reflection of who we are, what we stand for and what we continue to strive towards — embracing transparency, responsibility and progress while recognising that meaningful change is an ongoing process.
"WE RECOGNISE THAT SUSTAINABILITY IS NOT A FIXED DESTINATION BUT AN ONGOING JOURNEY, GUIDED BY PURPOSEFUL DECISIONS AND A LONG-TERM VISION."
Made With Consideration & Ethicality & Transparency
We believe responsible production begins with making thoughtfully and avoiding unnecessary excess.
Made-to-order forms an important part of the NIKOLO BERTOK model, allowing selected pieces to be produced in response to genuine demand. Small production runs, considered material choices and the continued development of existing designs help reduce unnecessary production while preserving the individuality of each piece.
Our approach continues to evolve as we look for better materials, processes and production methods without compromising design or quality.
We value craftsmanship, longevity and thoughtful construction over disposable consumption. Wherever possible, we work with trusted specialist makers and suppliers, choosing quality materials and production methods that support both the integrity of the garment and a more considered approach to fashion.
We believe responsibility begins with honesty. We do not make promises we cannot keep, nor do we use broad claims that cannot be meaningfully supported. Instead, we aim to communicate openly about how our pieces are designed, made and sourced, recognising both what we can control and where there is still room to improve.
For us, transparency is not about presenting perfection. It is about being clear about our choices, avoiding overstatement and continually working towards better practices as the brand evolves.
Materials & No Real Fur Promise
Materials are selected for their quality, character and relationship to the design. Natural fibres, fine Italian & Scottish yarns and carefully sourced fabrics form an important part of the collections, chosen not only for appearance but for their handle, structure and performance.
NIKOLO BERTOK does not use real fur, exotic animal skins or materials derived from endangered species. Where we work with fibres of animal origin, such as wool, cashmere and other natural fibres, we aim to source them as responsibly as possible and favour suppliers who can provide clear information about origin, standards and production practices.
We recognise that responsible sourcing is an ongoing process rather than a fixed claim. For this reason, we continue to review the materials we use, prioritising quality, traceability and more considered choices wherever possible.
Fair Labour
We believe the people involved in making our products should be treated with fairness, dignity and respect.
Wherever possible, NIKOLO BERTOK works with trusted makers, specialist manufacturers and suppliers whose practices align with responsible working standards. We value skilled craftsmanship and long-term working relationships, and we aim to support production environments that respect fair treatment, safe working conditions and appropriate remuneration.
We do not claim to have complete visibility over every stage of every supply chain. Instead, we work to make informed choices, ask the right questions and prioritise partners who share our expectations around responsible labour practices.
Community & Education
NIKOLO BERTOK is committed to giving back to the local creative community. The studio regularly donates fabric offcuts, surplus materials and unused textiles to local universities and educational institutions with art and fashion programmes. By supporting students and emerging designers with access to quality materials, we aim to extend the life of resources, reduce waste and encourage sustainable thinking within the next generation of creatives. This initiative reflects our belief that sustainability is not only about responsible production, but also about sharing knowledge and supporting future talent.
PARTNERSHIPS
By collaborating with small manufacturers in the UK and EU, we support local craftsmanship, keep production intentionally low, and uphold ethical standards at every stage. Our materials are chosen for their heritage, quality, and reduced footprint, ranging from respected British mills to trusted international houses. We remain proudly fur-free and stay committed to thoughtful creation that honours people, craft and the environment.
Our participation within responsible and creative communities helps strengthen transparency, accountability and recognition, while connecting us with organisations that support and encourage better practices across the industry. These partnerships form part of our continued commitment to learning, improving and contributing to more responsible ways of working for the future.
NIKOLO BERTOK has been a recognised member of UKFT since 2024, reflecting our commitment to industry standards and British craftsmanship.
